Description

Currently two fish passage barriers exist on this property preventing passage to the upper reaches of ISH tish creek for aquatic species such as redband trout which is a species of concern and endangered species act threatened bull trout. Bull trout critical habitat does not occur in ISH tish but is close in proximity to critical habitat located on the north fork sprague river. This reach of ISH tish is also very heavily degraded due to decades of mismanaged cattle ranching. Incision in several areas exceed 8 feet in depth. Floodplain connection on this property is nonexistent as well as presence of any instream habitat features such as woody debris and boulders and morphological function. In order to address these issues and restore this section of ISH tish creek to its historic function a comprehensive analysis of both fish passage and restorative actions will need to be done. Phase I will include stream analysis and modeling and stream function surveys to inform the types of restoration actions needed in this reach. Phases II and III will include implementation of restoration actions and fish passage construction identified in phase I.phases II and III will include the construction of two roughened channels to allow fish passage into the upper reaches as well as installation and construction of habitat features including but not limited to beaver DAM analogues and post assisted log structures and bank attached large woody debris structures and boulder placement with the overall goal of altering channel dynamics such as pool and riffle creation which will increase habitat quality and complexity and restore floodplain connection. Post construction activities include fencing and planting the riparian areas on the property. Currently there are no fences separating pastures or excluding cattle from the riparian area leading to further degradation of the stream banks.
