Description

This project seeks to control invasive species negatively impacting the detroit harbor nature preserve and meet the goals of glri focus area 2. In 2023 through the dcist partnership dclt and USFWS contracted with GEI to begin control of japanese barberry and other invasive woody species across the harbor on detroit island. This is an expansion of that effort to restore and enhance the upland forests and coastal wetlands in the area. The quality and importance of the habitat to migratory birds and rare species is discussed later in the application form. No formalized BAT monitoring has taken place on washington island even though the largest maternity roost in the state is located less than 2 miles away on plum island.
