The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) awarded a $150,000 Cooperative Agreement grant (CFDA 15.631 - Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program) to the Northwest California Resource Conservation & Development Council (NCRC&DC), a non-profit organization, to implement erosion control and sediment reduction treatments in the Scott River and surrounding watersheds in California.
The project aims to inventory, design, permit, and implement 15-30 high priority treatments such as culvert cleaning, critical dip installation, culvert upgrades, and fill excavation to prevent an estimated 1,500-4,500 tons of road-related sediment from reaching key tributaries. This will help protect critical spawning and rearing habitat for salmon, steelhead, and other migratory fish. The work will be coordinated with the Scott River Watershed Council's program to train local natural resources technicians in road inventory procedures. The project is scheduled to run from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2029.
