THE ANCHORAGE SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT (ASWCD) HAS LAUNCHED AN INVASIVE SPECIES PROGRAM OVER THE PAST COUPLE YEARS WHICH HAS GOTTEN OFF TO A TREMENDOUSLY SUCCESSFUL START, IN PART DUE TO THE SUPPORT WE HAVE RECEIVED FROM THE USFWS. ASWCD HAS ADVANCED THE ANCHORAGE INVASIVE SPECIES STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT PLAN, WHICH INCLUDES A PRIORITIZATION FRAMEWORK WHICH HELPS THE ANC-CISMA IDENTIFY KEY AREAS AND SPECIES TO FOCUS ON FOR SURVEY AND CONTROL WITHIN THE MUNICIPALITY OF ANCHORAGE. UNDER THIS COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH USFWS WE INTEND TO: IMPLEMENT STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT OF INVASIVE SPECIES, SURVEY PRIORITY AREAS, IMPLEMENT STRATEGIC OUTREACH, BUILD CAPACITY FOR WEED FREE PRODUCTS, AND COORDINATE THE ANC-CISMA. WE WILL STRATEGICALLY TAP THE EXPERTISE OF A SPECIALIZED CONTRACTOR FOR PLANNING, EDUCATION, AND CONTROL, AS WELL AS SEEKING HELP FROM NEIGHBORING SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICTS AND AGENCIES, TO MANAGE INVASIVE SPECIES, AND PREVENT THEIR SPREAD INTO MORE REMOTE AND PRISTINE AREAS OF ALASKA.
