The Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service awarded a $2,419,619 Cooperative Agreement under the National Fish Passage Program (CFDA 15.685) to Fort Wayne City Utilities to improve aquatic habitat connectivity and restore populations of imperiled fish and mussel species. Key project activities include:
Replacing two culverts on the Pierson Drain, removing the Spy Run Dam on Spy Run Creek, and completing a feasibility study to remove the Hosey Dam on the Maumee River. These actions will open 44.1 miles of additional flowing water habitat. Riparian restoration and in-stream habitat improvements will also be implemented. The Maumee River is a priority watershed for several imperiled mussel and host fish species that will significantly benefit from these habitat connectivity enhancements.
