About this award
The U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 5 awarded a $500,000 Cooperative Agreement under the Coastal program (CFDA 15.630) to the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy (ESLC), a non-profit organization, to develop a comprehensive, region-wide conservation plan for the Delmarva Peninsula. The plan will identify priority areas for habitat restoration, conservation easements, and other protection measures to increase the amount of protected wildlife habitat and migration corridors in the region, especially in the face of climate change impacts. This project builds on the strategic action plan ESLC and its partners previously completed in 2021. The award period is from July 31, 2023 to September 30, 2026.
Description
In july 2021, the delmarva restoration and conservation network (drcn) completed a strategic restoration and conservation action plan (action plan), which outlined a concept design for delmarva conservation. The next phase of implementation is the development of a specific land protection plan through the further engagement of the drcn and its various governmental and non-governmental partners. The eastern shore land conservancy (eslc) will work with the U.S. Fish and wildlife service, and other delmarva-focused conservation groups to develop a comprehensive, region-wide conservation plan that will identify specific areas for priority conservation activity, including restoration and conservation easements. This project would help to ensure a net-gain increase in protected priority wildlife habitat and migration corridors in the delmarva in the face of the impacts of climate change. Such a plan would allow federal, state, local, and non-governmental conservation funding to be targeted to the highest regional conservation priorities.
