About this award
This $1,000,000 Cooperative Agreement award from the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 1 supports the Lomakatsi Restoration Project (LRP) and its partners in implementing strategic forest health and wildfire fuels reduction treatments on at least 500 acres of private land adjacent to communities. The goal is to minimize wildfire pathways in the wildland-urban interface and protect service trust resources, while also creating 15 full-time equivalent positions, many strengthening the tribal and Latinx workforces.
The project aligns with the objectives of the National Fire Plan-Wildland Urban Interface Community Fire Assistance program (CFDA 15.674), which provides assistance to communities at risk from catastrophic wildland fires. Through this 5-year Cooperative Agreement awarded on June 15, 2023, LRP will expand implementation of these critical forest health and fuel reduction treatments to support the partnership's goal of treating 40% of the West Bear landscape.
