Description
However, these ecosystems face significant threats due to climate change, land use changes, and invasive species. The scope of the cooperative agreement between the U.S. Fish and wildlife service s partners for fish and wildlife program and malpai borderlands group is to enhance habitat for federal trust species by working with private landowners in southeast arizona. In addition, this agreement aims to restore and improve the biodiversity of southeastern arizona s ecosystems through landowner agreements. The projects will focus on restoring degraded habitats, conserving threatened and endangered species, and controlling invasive species on private lands in arizona. We anticipate at least one landowner agreement with a private landowner, tribe, city, or county to be implemented under the cooperative agreement to enhance wetlands, uplands, and riparian areas through various techniques. The practices include but are not limited to removing native and non-native trees, installing erosion control structures, livestock management, invasive species control, prescribed fire, water access and management structures, and other practices.
