Description
The alaska department of fish and game (ADF G) instream flow protection - aniak river watershed (phase 3) project will continue previous efforts the department has initiated to quantify and protect instream flows for important salmon-producing rivers in southwest alaska. In 2019, ADF G S instream flow program initiated a streamgaging network in the watershed consisting of one streamgage on the mainstem of the aniak river and four discharge measurement stations on tributaries to the aniak and the upper river. This funding will continue the project S hydrologic data collection by two years in order to obtain the full five years of streamflow data requested by the alaska department of natural resources (DNR) for reservation of water applications. A reservation of water is a water right that protects specific instream water uses (including the protection of fish and wildlife habitat, migration, and propagation) in perpetuity, keeping later water users from appropriating water that may affect the specified instream uses. This project will protect approximately 100 miles of fish habitat.
