Description
This creek provides important habitat for young chinook salmon and other aquatic and wetland wildlife. Cripple creek was diverted into a drainage ditch in the gold-mining ERA of the early 1900S. Phase 1 of this project successfully diverted flow from the lower part of the ditch into the historic cripple creek channel. Phase 2 will build on this success by diverting flow from farther upstream, restoring even more of the original channel. The interior alaska land trust will contract with an engineering firm to complete the necessary modeling and designs of the diversion to determine its optimal location and connection between the drainage ditch and cripple creek. The engineering firm will design a large channel block to capture flow, and oversee its construction. The drainage ditch will remain in place for high flow events. The engineering firm will apply for all permits, administer the bid process, and provide construction administration and inspection services to ensure the project is completed according to the plans.
