Description
The lincoln soil and water conservation district (lswcd) aims to increase oregon silverspot butterfly (OSB) habitat connectivity, public awareness, and partnership collaboration through vegetation management and pollinator habitat restoration on small (less than acres) private residential properties within newport and yachats, oregon that are within mile of the ocean and 4 miles from the nearest extant or future reintroduction site (see maps). This project will support OSB recovery efforts at yaquina head and along the central coast by increasing public awareness of this species and the importance of salt spray meadow habitat for the butterfly. Currently at those two locations, the bureau of land management, siuslaw national forest, and the oregon parks and recreation department are working together to restore OSB habitat. In addition to increasing public awareness in support of these partners, this proposal will provide habitat connectivity through working with local private landowners via OSB safe harbor agreements (SHA) on developing pollinator gardens and OSB habitat where appropriate. Properties within 1 mile of yaquina head or central coast habitat will be given preference should participation exceed the budget expectations. The project duration will be 4 years starting fall 2022 through spring 2027.
