Description

The tally HO creek stream restoration project will benefit the california red legged frog rana draytonii crlf , steelhead trout oncorhynchus mykiss , and other native stream and riparian dependent species by restoring and enhancing a stretch of tally HO creek in arroyo grande, california the project area encompasses approximately 220 linear feet of tally HO creek, bordered on either side by residential properties the creek is choked with non native vegetation, including vinca, cape IVY and english IVY the project site is located approximately 3 miles upstream from the FCC, where increased sediment deposition from upstream sources is resulting in a rapid decline of flood protection capacity, as well as degrading habitat for the federally listed steelhead trout and crlf the FCC provides protection to the disadvantaged community of oceano, as well as to hundreds of acres of prime farmland in the cienega valley the project will reduce sediment deposition in the arroyo grande flood control channel, which will result in increased flood protection for downstream communities and farmland, and improved habitat for federally listed species restoration activities include repair of a 4 foot head cut at the downstream terminus of the project reach, excavation of a low flow channel along approximately 220 linear feet of stream channel, lowering the channel base to meet the grade downstream of the head cut, and restoring native riparian habitat by removing invasive species and revegetating with natives the project will increase the channel s high flow capacity, reduce flooding, and reduce sediment mobilization into the downstream flood control channel aquatic and riparian habitat improvements have been designed to specifically benefit steelhead trout and crlf
