Description
Funds under this award are to be used to support a pilot public-private partnership through the great outdoors fund to improve recreational opportunities on department of the interior (DOI) managed lands, advance conservation stewardship, modernize infrastructure, and reduce maintenance backlog, and restore trust with local communities. The great outdoors fund will collaborate with the U.S. Fish and wildlife service and the bureau of land management to increase recreational access and opportunities and foster partnerships to achieve balanced stewardship and sustainable use of our natural resources through the following initiatives: the great outdoors fund will: ' serve as a conduit between the public and private sectors including industry, other federal agencies, tribes, territories, nonprofit organizations, and individuals to leverage all stakeholders' limited resources in a cost-effective manner for a greater collective impact. ' create a database (the fund DB) of projects to improve recreational opportunities and access including ADA compliant projects. The fund DB will be tied to thegreatoutdoorsfund.ORG to display select projects as forward-facing on the website to engage in fundraising campaigns. ' work collaboratively with partner organizations to establish a merit-based process of evaluation for projects and the prioritization of project funding. ' coordinate with agencies to communicate internally and to their external partner organizations about the database and provide information on project profiles so agencies and their partners can gather project profile data and enter recreation-related projects into the database. (see project narrative for project timetable.) ' create new and sustainable revenue streams to support outdoor recreation and conservation among an ever-growing circle of public and private partners. ' secure funding from the private sector for a minimum 1:1 match for future project segments. ' if funding is available and a project is approved under the DOI review process, collaborate with each agency to secure underwriting for at least one recreation-related project to be completed in FY20.
