The SE-MEQ study aims to establish a regional methane emissions estimate focused on the Southeast/Gulf Coast region by improving emission factors for specific asset categories, combining...
This $20,000,000 Cooperative Agreement awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (CFDA 81.089 - Fossil Energy Research and Development) to the University of Texas at Austin will support a comprehensive, multi-scale program to measure and inventory methane emissions in the Northeast United States. The key objectives are to: (1) design and deploy consistent, accurate, and transparent methane emissions measurements across varied spatial and temporal...
This Cooperative Agreement award, provided by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management under the Fossil Energy Research and Development program (CFDA 81.089), will fund the development of consistent, accurate, granular, and transparent multi-scale methane emission measurement approaches focused on the Permian, Anadarko, Arkoma, and San Juan Basin production regions in the south central United States. The $20,000,000 award to the University of Texas at...
The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management awarded a $209,999,996 Cooperative Agreement under the Fossil Energy Research and Development (CFDA 81.089) program to the Institute of Gas Technology (GTI Energy), a non-profit research organization. The goal of this 4-year award, titled "INFLATION REDUCTION ACT (IRA) - WELL EMISSIONS AND LEAKAGE LIMITATION CHECK (WELL CHECK)," is to accelerate the mitigation of methane emissions from small oil and gas...
This Cooperative Agreement, awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management under the Fossil Energy Research and Development program (CFDA 81.089), provides $6,349,734 to the Institute of Gas Technology (GTI Energy) to deploy and test a novel, low-cost linear motor methane mitigation compressor. The primary objective is to capture a wide variety of methane leaks across the natural gas value chain, including from reciprocating compressors and pneumatic...
This $20,000,000 Cooperative Agreement award from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management under the Fossil Energy Research and Development (CFDA 81.089) program aims to develop consistent, accurate, and transparent multi-scale methane emission measurements in the North-Central U.S. region. The key objectives are to: Collect, validate, and disseminate point source to regional-scale methane emission inventories using both top-down and bottom-up approaches...
The Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management awarded a $7,487,592 Cooperative Agreement to the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech) under the Fossil Energy Research and Development (CFDA 81.089) federal grant program. The primary objective of this project is to deploy, field test, and permanently install innovative methane emission mitigation technologies at compressor stations across multiple locations, including the Permian Basin,...
This $1,038,171 project grant from the National Science Foundation's Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) supports research into methane efflux from river-influenced coastal marine sediments in the Gulf of Mexico. The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium will measure methane fluxes from coastal sediments into Gulf waters using an in situ lander to collect benthic flux measurements of oxygen and methane. Sediment microprofiles of oxygen and sulfide will also be analyzed. Naturally occurring...
This Cooperative Agreement award from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (CFDA 81.089 - Fossil Energy Research and Development) provides $3,409,297 to Blue Sky Measurements, Inc. to perform a three-phase project for field validation testing, commercial design certification, and EPA approval of their NIRVIEW fixed-position optical sensing technology for detecting, quantifying, and locating fugitive methane emissions. The project aims to develop an...
The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management awarded a $9,999,522 Cooperative Agreement under the Fossil Energy Research and Development (CFDA 81.089) program to GTI Energy (an Institute of Gas Technology non-profit) on January 15, 2025. DETAILED MEASUREMENT INFORMED METHANE EMISSION INVENTORY OF THE HAYNESVILLE SHALE BASIN. GTI ENERGY ALONG WITH CHESAPEAKE ENERGY AND PACIFIC NORTHWEST NATIONAL LABORATORY (PNNL) WILL IMPLEMENT AND EVALUATE A METHODOLOGY FOR RECONCILING BOTTOM-UP (CALCULATED) ESTIMATES OF METHANE EMISSIONS WITH TOP DOWN/MEASURED ESTIMATES OF METHANE EMISSIONS IN THE HAYNESVILLE SHALE BASIN (HAYNESVILLE). THE EFFORT INCLUDES SCALING THE ESTIMATE UP TO CREATE AN INVENTORY OF TOTAL EMISSIONS IN THE HAYNESVILLE. THE PROJECT WILL ACT AS A NOVEL, LARGE-SCALE, AND INDEPENDENT FIELD VALIDATION OF THE EXTENSIVE, MULTI-MILLION-DOLLAR GTI VERITAS INITIATIVE (VERITAS) MEASUREMENT AND RECONCILIATION PROTOCOLS.
