The University of Houston System was awarded a $999,604 Cooperative Agreement on January 1, 2025 by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) under the Renewable Energy Research and Development Federal Grant Program (CFDA 81.087). The primary goal of this 12-month project is to invest in and expand the clean energy workforce, particularly in the hydrogen industry, and create access to high-quality jobs in underserved communities in the Houston metropolitan area. Key objectives include meaningful engagement with industry and impacted communities to identify barriers and training needs, inventory existing workforce resources, and develop and implement innovative programs and curricula to effectively resource the needed workforce development interests of both industry and the community. The project aims to produce a toolkit of materials, strategies, and tactics that can be shared with other communities and hydrogen industry stakeholders.
