The Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) awarded a $34,274,698 Cooperative Agreement to Oxeon Energy LLC to address manufacturing process gaps and increase throughput capacity for solid oxide electrolyzer cell (SOEC) production. The award, issued on September 1, 2024, supports Oxeon Energy's work under the Renewable Energy Research and Development program (CFDA 81.087) to automate and scale up electrolyzer manufacturing to enable low-cost hydrogen production. As part of this effort, Oxeon Energy will develop fabrication processes for electrolyte/hydrogen electrode bilayers, work on metal support tubes with corrugated structures, and build and test laboratory-scale and demonstration stacks. Oxeon Energy will also collaborate with the University of California, San Diego as a sub-grantee on this project, which aims to advance reliable and cost-effective reversible solid oxide cell technology for hydrogen and electricity production.
