Description

Temperature-sensitive hydraulic conductivity controller proppants for enhanced geothermal systems the overall objective of this proposal is to design, manufacture and test thermally sensitive proppants that improve efficiency of EGS by letting water produce at higher temperatures. EGS operators want to maximize heat extraction from given volume of rock, in other words they want to avoid any "fast paths" that would "short-circuit" water circulation or any situation not allowing the injected water to heat up properly to the desired temperature range. The proposed technology rather than plugs any induced fractures during stimulation (like diverters), IT is designed to prop induced fractures like regular proppant used in hydraulic fracturing, but these proppants are designed to reduce the hydraulic conductivity of the fracture proportionally, if the formation temperature at a given point is not high enough. The plugged parts of the fracture network may open to allow water flow upon enough warming by the rock. The proposed proppant system is aiming to provide strong hydraulic conductivity at high temperatures (>200 °c) and low conductivity at low temperatures (
