FIREARM RELATED INJURY AND DEATH REDUCTION THROUGH REDUCTION TO LETHAL MEANS AND FIREARM SAFETY EDUCATION - BBAHC PROJECT ABSTRACT BRISTOL BAY AREA HEALTH CORPORATION, SERVING 28 TRIBES IN SOUTHWEST ALASKA, WILL UTILIZE TIPCAP PART II FUNDING BETWEEN FY26 AND FY30 TO DECREASE THE RATE OF FIREARM RELATED DEATHS AND INJURIES IN THE REGION. THIS WILL BE DONE THROUGH A COMBINATION OF EVIDENCE-BASED INTERVENTIONS INCLUDING REDUCING ACCESS TO LETHAL MEANS WITH THE PURCHASE AND DISTRIBUTION OF GUN SAFES AND AMMUNITION STORAGE UNITS AS WELL AS OFFERING EDUCATION TO TRIBAL MEMBERS. WITH THESE STRATEGIES, WE PLAN TO REDUCE THE GROWING RATE OF FIREARM-RELATED INJURY AND DEATH BY 10% BY THE END OF FY30. TO EVALUATE OUR SUCCESS, WE WILL COMPARE RATES OF FIREARM-RELATED DEATH AND INJURY FROM PRIOR TO THE PROJECT START TO THE END OF OUR PROJECT CYCLE AND DETERMINE IF FIREARM STORAGE PRACTICES HAVE IMPROVED WITHIN OUR REGION THROUGH THE DISTRIBUTION OF SAFE STORAGE OPTIONS. THIS EVALUATION WILL TAKE PLACE THROUGH DATA COLLECTED AT BASELINE AND THROUGH FOLLOW-UP WITH PARTICIPANTS AND WITH DATA COLLECTED AT THE STATE-LEVEL ON FIREARM INJURY AND DEATH WITHIN THE REGION.
