The recipient conducts 6–10 foreign animal disease investigations per year across commodities and monitors caudal fold response rates through the CORE ONE database. For swine, the recipient performs 50 tests annually from high-risk animals for pseudorabies and brucellosis, 100 tests from abattoir tissue for African swine fever and classical swine fever, and monitors 550 swine with vesicular lesions at abattoirs. Under the One Health component, the recipient monitors six zoonotic cases per year. The recipient also trains staff in Level 300 and 400 Incident Command System courses to support unified federal, state, and local response to animal disease outbreaks.

Description

Avian: 7406 tests/year. Cattle 1174 bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) samples/year 318 tuberculosis (TB) tests/year on suspects reported by accredited veterinarians. They will conduct 6-10 FAD investigations/year. One health: 6 zoonotic cases/year. Sheep /goats/cervids: 1 FAD investigation/year. Swine: 50 tests/year from high-risk swine for pseudorabies and swine brucellosis. 100 tests/year from tissue collected at abattoirs for african swine fever and classical swine fever. 550 swine seen with vesicular lesions at abattoirs. For avian commodity datcp will conduct both active and passive surveillance for avian influenza along with conducting biosecurity audits for the national poultry improvement program (NPIP) by performing 7406 tests/year. For cattle commodity datcp will collect 1174 BSE samples/year to achieve state-level goals defined in the BSE national sampling plan. They will perform 318 tuberculosis (TB) tests/year on suspects reported by accredited veterinarians. Datcp reviews granuloma submission reports and identifies any abattoirs that are below performance standards for submitting granulomas for cattle tuberculosis evaluation. A list of TB certified veterinarians is maintained in a datcp database. Caudal fold response rates are entered into core one database. A veterinary program manager monitors caudal fold response rates and directs district veterinarians to conduct retraining of accredited veterinarians. The cooperator will continue to train staff in level 300 and 400 incident command system courses to facilitate a unified, coordinated federal/state and local response to animal disease outbreaks. They will conduct 6-10 FAD investigations/year. For one health the cooperator will continue to develop cross sector communication protocols with WI division of public health covering both human cases and animal cases of suspected zoonotic diseases. For sheep/goat/cervid datcp will continue to conduct outreach with the producers and accredited veterinarians. For swine the cooperator will initiate investigations at high incidence of swine with vesicular lesions at abattoirs and enter the data into the emergency management response system (EMRS). WI currently has one high incident P lant reporting vesicular cases fairly frequently. Wisconsin has over 5,000,000 cattle, 32,000 goats, 80,000 sheep, and over 58 ,000,000 poultry, but does not have a large swine population. Hogs are shipped in from other states to wisconsin abattoirs. The surveillance and collaboration that is done in wisconsin will help protect consumers through food safety.
