THE PURPOSE OF THIS AGREEMENT IS TO CREATE IDENTIFICATION RESOURCES FOR NATIVE AND EXOTIC PESTIFEROUS SPECIES OF PLATYPODINE WEEVILS. THIS GROUP INCLUDES SEVERAL DESTRUCTIVE PESTS THAT TARGET A VARIETY OF ORCHARD, WOOD, AND ORNAMENTAL TREES, INCLUDING A COUPLE OF SPECIES THAT ARE NATIONAL PRIORITY PESTS UNDER THE COOPERATIVE AGRICULTURAL PEST SURVEY. THIS AGREEMENT WILL IMPROVE PLANT PROTECTION AND QUARANTINE'S ABILITY TO IDENTIFY AND SCREEN THESE DESTRUCTIVE PESTS. ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: A LIST OF PESTIFEROUS AND NATIVE PLATYPODINE SPECIES WILL BE COMPILED. DIAGNOSTIC MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERS CHARACTERIZE EACH SPECIES WILL BE IDENTIFIED. THIS INFORMATION WILL BE USED TO PRODUCE AN IDENTIFICATION KEY TO PLATYPODINE SPECIES. DELIVERABLES AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES: DIAGNOSTIC IMAGES FOR NATIVE AND PESTIFEROUS PLATYPODINE WEEVILS WILL BE PRODUCED AND SHARED WITH PLANT PROTECTION AND QUARANTINE. A DRAFT IDENTIFICATION KEY TO THESE SPECIES WILL ALSO BE PRODUCED. INTENDED BENEFICIARY(IES): THE RESOURCES PRODUCED UNDER THIS AGREEMENT WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE BROADER PUBLIC. THESE RESOURCES WILL IMPROVE IDENTIFICATION, DIAGNOSTIC, AND SCREENING CAPABILITIES FOR ANYONE NE EDING TO IDENTIFY THESE TREE PESTS.
