THE PURPOSE OF THIS AGREEMENT IS TO PROVIDE IMPROVED SURVEY METHODS FOR WOODBORING BEETLES. THIS INCLUDES THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF SURVEY METHODOLOGY FOR INVASIVE WOODBORERS TO SUPPORT THE EFFORTS OF THE COOPERATIVE AGRICULTURAL PEST SURVEY AND THEIR STATE AND FEDERAL COOPERATORS TO DETECT AND PREVENT EXOTIC WOODBORING BEETLES FROM ENTERING AND BECOMING ESTABLISHED IN NORTH AMERICA. IT ALSO PROVIDES THE SURVEY SUPPLY AND PROCUREMENT PROGRAM WITH THE TOOLS NEEDED TO CONDUCT THOSE SURVEYS. ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE CONDUCTING FIELD TRAPPING ASSAYS. THIS WORK INCLUDES EVALUATING TRAPS AND NOVEL ATTRACTANTS FOR WOODBORING BEETLES (INCLUDING THE DEVELOPMENT, WHEN POSSIBLE, OF TRAPS THAT CAN WORK FOR MULTIPLE PEST SPECIES) AS EVALUATING NEW METHODS FOR IMPROVING THE COST-EFFICIENCY OF SURVEYS. DELIVERABLES AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES: DELIVERABLES WILL BE A) A MULTI-COLORED TRAP THAT UTILIZES VISUAL ATTRACTANTS ACROSS MULTIPLE WOODBORING BEETLE TAXA, B) AN IMPROVED LIQUID KILLING AGENT FOR WOODBORER TRAPS, C) AN IMPROVED TRAP SURFACE TREATMENT THAT IS LESS EXPENSIVE AND EASIER TO PROCURE THAN THE CURRENT PRODUCT, FLUON, A LIST OF SPECIES, SEX AND TOTAL NUMBER OF WOODBORERS CAUGHT IN TRAPPING ASSAYS USING 10-CARBON HYDROXYKETONES AND DIOLS AND DETERMINING IF THEY'RE SYNERGISTIC WITH THE CURRENT GENERIC LURE. INTENDED BENEFICIARIES: THIS WILL SUPPORT EFFORTS OF PLANT PROTECTION AND QUARANTINE, AND OTHER C OLLABORATING FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES, TO PROVIDE EARLY DETECTION TOOLS FOR THESE POTENTIALLY INVASIVE WOODBORERS. ADDITIONALLY, THIS WORK WILL SUPPORT THE COOPERATIVE AGRICULTURAL PEST SURVEY, AND THE USDA APHIS PPQ SURVEY SUPPLY AND PROCUREMENT PROGRAM, AS WELL AS THE NEW PEST CROSS FUNCTIONAL WORKING GROUP.
