- The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded Xavier University a $246,133 Cooperative Agreement under the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care federal grant program (CFDA 10.025). The primary purpose of this award is to support programs eradicating the Asian longhorned beetle, an invasive pest species, by developing information on the biology and detection of the beetle. Specifically, the university will conduct research and outreach to...
- This Cooperative Agreement award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is for $190,869.00 to support research efforts to estimate the effectiveness of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) classical biological control at the University of Maryland, College Park. The award is funded through the USDA APHIS "Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care" (CFDA 10.025) program, which aims to protect U.S. agriculture from...
- The Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded a $122,527 cooperative agreement to the University of Richmond to improve artificial diet-based rearing systems for controlling the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). The goal is to maximize production of EAB parasitoid wasps for release under the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care federal grant program (CFDA 10.025). Specifically, the University will study diet nutrition and texture to increase...
- Federal Cooperative Agreement Summary The University of Richmond received a $218,847 Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), awarded September 30, 2026, with an ultimate completion date of September 29, 2027. The agreement supports the development and improvement of artificial diet-based rearing systems for the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) and parasitoid biological control agents used to manage EAB infestations. Under this...
- Cooperative Agreement Summary The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) awarded a Cooperative Agreement totaling $163,913 to North Carolina State University effective July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, to enhance biological control of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) and establish an ash propagation program in North Carolina. Under this agreement, the university will continue monitoring natural enemies of EAB and assess ash health at established field sites while creating a North...
- Federal Cooperative Agreement Summary The University of Maryland, College Park received a $196,989 Cooperative Agreement from the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) effective September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2027 to expand recovery efforts for parasitoids of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. The recipient will deploy monitoring traps, collect and identify parasitoid specimens, and maintain detailed recovery records to support APHIS's...
- Federal Cooperative Agreement Summary The University of New Hampshire, Division of the University System of New Hampshire, received a Cooperative Agreement award of $129,616 from the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) effective July 31, 2026, through July 30, 2027. The agreement supports evaluation of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Biological Control Initiative by assessing how population dynamics of the EAB pest and its released natural enemies influence forest health outcomes at...
- Federal Cooperative Agreement Summary The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) awarded the University System of New Hampshire a Cooperative Agreement valued at $130,902 under the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care program (CFDA 10.025) effective September 1, 2025, through August 31, 2026. The award funds research examining the persistence and ecological impacts of parasitoids (natural enemies) of the invasive emerald ash borer across a latitudinal gradient. The...
Xavier University received a $226,054 Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) for the period September 30, 2026 through September 29, 2027. Under this award, Xavier will conduct research and operational activities to enhance the rearing, production, and deployment of biological control agents targeting the emerald ash borer (EAB), an invasive pest affecting ash tree populations across North America. The university will maintain research colonies of biocontrol agents, produce high-quality organisms for field deployment, conduct quality control and bolt rot studies, and generate 750–1,000 sentinel bolts for distributed research projects conducted by USDA-APHIS cooperators. The primary deliverables include production and delivery of viable biocontrol agents meeting specified quality standards, comprehensive data on sentinel bolt performance and quality control metrics, distribution of the sentinel bolts to support multi-site field research initiatives, and centralized identification and analysis of program recovery samples submitted by partner organizations. These outputs will directly support USDA-APHIS Plant Protection and Quarantine's operational capacity to manage EAB populations and optimize the effectiveness of the federal biological control program.
