THIS AGREEMENT COVERS A PPA 7721 PROJECT. THE PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP TRAPS AND SURVEY TOOLS FOR BOX TREE MOTH THAT ARE MORE SPECIES-SPECIFIC THAN THOSE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE, AND EXCLUDE POLLINATOR BY-CATCH (BEES, WASPS, ETC.). ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: FIELD TRAPPING ASSAYS WILL BE CONDUCTED TO COMPARE THE NUMBER OF LURES NEEDED IN BOX TREE MOTH TRAPS. THE CURRENT RECOMMENDATION IS A DOUBLE-LURE, BUT A SINGLE LURE WOULD BE MORE COST-EFFECTIVE. DELIVERABLES AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES: THE BOX TREE MOTH CROSS-FUNCTIONAL WORKING GROUP WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A RECOMMENDATION FOR TRAPPING METHODS FOR OPTIMIZING CAPTURE OF MOTHS WHILE LIMITING THE BY-CATCH COLLECTED IN EACH TRAP. INTENDED BENEFICIARIES: EFFORTS WILL SUPPORT EFFORTS OF PLANT PROTECTION AND QUARANTINE, AND OTHER COLLABORATING FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES, TO PROVIDE EARLY DETECTION TOOLS FOR THESE POTENTIALLY INVASIVE MOTH PESTS. ADDITIONALLY, THIS WORK WILL SUPPORT THE COOPERATIVE AGRICULTURAL PEST SURVEY.
