THE PURPOSE OF THIS AGREEMENT IS TO SUPPORT THE ENHANCEMENT OF EXOTIC WOOD BORING BEETLE TRAPPING SYSTEMS. TRAPPING ASSAYS CONDUCTED BY FOREST PEST METHODS LAB (FPML) STAFF CAPTURE UP TO 20,000 INSECT SPECIMENS PER YEAR. THIS AGREEMENT WILL PROVIDE IDENTIFICATION OF THESE SPECIMENS ALLOWING FOREST PEST METHODS LABORATORY STAFF TO FOCUS ON CONDUCTING ASSAYS AND ANALYZING DATA. ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE SORTING AND IDENTIFYING SPECIMENS TO SPECIES, IF POSSIBLE, AS WELL AS PROVIDING SEX DATA IF NEEDED. FOREST PEST METHOD LAB PLANS TO DEPLOY ~150 TRAPS COVERING 3 STUDIES. WITH 5-6 BI-WEEKLY CHECKS, THE GROUP EXPECTS ~800 VIALS CONTAINING MULTIPLE (~12,000) INSECTS THAT WILL NEED TO BE IDENTIFIED. DELIVERABLES AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES: DELIVERABLES WILL BE A LIST OF SPECIES, SEX AND TOTAL NUMBER OF WOODBORERS CAUGHT IN TRAPPING ASSAYS PRESENTED IN SPREADSHEETS AND SEPARATED BY FIELD TRAPPING ASSAY. INTENDED BENEFICIARIES: EFFORTS WILL SUPPORT EFFORTS OF PLANT PROTECTION AND QUARANTINE, AND OTHER COLLABORATING FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES, TO PROVIDE EARLY DETECTION TOOLS FOR THESE POTENTIALLY INVASIVE WOODBORERS. ADDITIONALLY, THIS WORK WILL SUPPORT THE COOPERATIVE AGRICULTURAL PEST SURVEY, AND THE USDA APHIS PPQ SURVEY SUPPLY AND PROCUREMENT PROGRAM, AS WELL AS THE NEW PEST CROSS FUNCTIONAL WORKING GROUP.
