AWARD PURPOSE: THE WASHINGTON INVASIVE SPECIES COUNCIL, USDA APHIS PPQ, WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, AND WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY, IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHER STATE, FEDERAL, TRIBAL, AND LOCAL AGENCIES WILL WORK TO EDUCATE AND MOBILIZE FIRST DETECTORS AND PRODUCERS, THE AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY, INTERNATIONAL PORTS-OF-ENTRY, AND THE PUBLIC ON RECOGNITION AND REPORTING OF HIGH-CONSEQUENCE FEDERAL AND STATE PRIORITY INVASIVE SPECIES. THIS OUTREACH WILL INCREASE KNOWLEDGE BASE AND RESPONSE CAPACITY AND ULTIMATELY, INCREASE THE CHANCES THAT THE NEXT AGRICULTURAL PEST IN WASHINGTON WILL BE DETECTED EARLY. ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: THE PROJECT HAS FIVE DISTINCTIVE COMPONENTS THAT WILL BE PLANNED AND EXECUTED WITHIN A 1-YEAR SPAN: HOST A SPECIFIC VIRTUAL WORKSHOP AND TARGETED SOCIAL MEDIA OUTREACH FOR THE SAN JUAN ISLANDS; HOST A TWO-DAY TRIBAL GOVERNMENT INVASIVE SPECIES VIRTUAL SUMMIT; PLAN AND DELIVER A VIRTUAL SCARAB BEETLE SURVEILLANCE AND IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOP; DESIGN AND DISPLAY DIGITAL BILLBOARDS FOR ONE MONTH AT FOUR KEY LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT WASHINGTON STATE DURING THIS PROJECT PERIOD. BILLBOARD DESIGN WILL BE COMPLETED IN COLLABORATION WITH THE DON'T MOVE FIREWOOD CAMPAIGN, MANAGED BY THE NATURE CONSERVANCY; WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY PESTICIDE RESOURCES AND EDUCATION PROGRAM HOSTS MULTIPLE STATEWIDE WORKSHOPS, BOTH IN-PERSON AND ONLINE, FOR PESTICIDE RECERTIFICATION CREDITS. THE WASHINGTON INVASIVE SPECIES COUNCIL PROPOSES TO TRAVEL TO AT LEAST FOUR IN-PERSON EVENTS AND PRESENT DURING AT LEAST FIVE WEBINAR EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT'S 1-YEAR PERIOD. TOPICS OF OUR 50-MINUTE PRESENTATION WILL INCLUDE PATHWAYS OF SPREAD, PRIORITY INVASIVE SPECIES AND THEIR IMPACTS TO AGRICULTURE, REPORTING, AND BEST PRACTICES TO LIMIT SPREAD. DELIVERABLES AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES: THE COOPERATOR SEEKS TO CONDUCT A PROGRAM WHICH IS EXPECTED TO RESULT IN: EDUCATING A NETWORK OF FIRST DETECTORS WITHIN WASHINGTON STATE WHO CAN SUCCESSFULLY RECOGNIZE, IDENTIFY, AND REPORT A NEW PEST INTRODUCTION. THE PROJECT WILL BE EVALUATED BY COLLECTING AND ANALYZING PARTICIPANT SURVEYS AND DOCUMENTING PARTICIPATION. IT IS THE RECREATION AND CONSERVATION OFFICE'S INTENT THAT THIS PROJECT WILL CONTINUE TO FLOURISH AS A MODEL FOR IMPLEMENTING CONSISTENT MULTI-STATE AND MULTI-AGENCY EDUCATION, OUTREACH, AND MESSAGING. THE WASHINGTON RE CREATION AND CONSERVATION OFFICE, ADMINISTRATIVE HOST OF THE WASHINGTON INVASIVE SPECIES COUNCIL, WILL TRACK ALL INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR OBSERVATION, MEASUREMENT AND MONITORING OF THIS PROJECT. THE AGENCY WILL SEEK TO ACTIVELY INCLUDE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT AND WILL MAKE AVAILABLE ALL INFORMATION UPON REQUEST FOR USE IN DECISIONS, BUDGET CHECKS, OBTAINING INPUTS, REVIEWS OR THE SUBMISSION OF DELIVERABLES.
