AWARD PURPOSE: THE PURPOSE IS TO CONDUCT A DETECTION SURVEY FOR EXOTIC CYST NEMATODES IN SEED POTATO FIELDS. ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: STAFF FROM THE SEED POTATO CERTIFICATION PROGRAM WILL COLLECT SOIL SAMPLES FROM FIELDS WHERE SEED POTATO CROPS WERE RECENTLY HARVESTED. SOIL SAMPLES WILL BE COLLECTED FROM A PORTION OF THE ANNUAL SEED POTATO ACREAGE USING THE POTATO CYST NEMATODE (PCN) NATIONAL SURVEY PROTOCOL. AFTER PROPER DRYING AND PREPARATION, ALL SOIL SAMPLES WILL BE SHIPPED TO THE USDA NEMATOLOGY LABORATORY TESTING LABORATORY IN AVOCA, NY FOR ANALYSIS. DELIVERABLES AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES: AFTER THE DETECTION SURVEY FOR EXOTIC CYST NEMATODES IN SEED POTATOES IS COMPLETE, GROWERS CAN CONTINUE TO EXPORT SEED POTATOES INTERNATIONALLY DUE TO NEGATIVE PCN FINDINGS IN THE SOIL.
