PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE (PDA) WILL CONDUCT SAMPLING AND SAMPLE PROCESSING FROM 3 SOUTHERN PA COUNTIES AND WILL UTILIZE ADVANCED DIAGNOSTIC INFRASTRUCTURE AND TAXONOMIC EXPERTISE TO CONDUCT THE SURVEILLANCE OBJECTIVES OUTLINED UNDER GOAL 1S OF THE PLANT PEST AND DISEASE MANAGEMENT AND DISASTER PREVENTION PROGRAM (PPA 7721). ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: THE PDA TEAM WILL CONDUCT SURVEYS TARGETING 30 WHEAT AND 3 CHICKPEA SITES FROM AT LEAST 10 FIELDS SPANNING ACROSS 3 SOUTHERN PENNSYLVANIA (PA) COUNTIES AND ANALYZE THEM FOR PRESENCE/ABSENCE OF TARGET PATHOGENS, ACCORDING TO USDA APPROVED METHODS. SAMPLING WILL BE CONDUCTED AT THE SITES IDENTIFIED BY PDA STAFF AS HIGH PRIORITY LOCATIONS, INCLUDING CROP PRODUCTION FIELDS, AND SEED POTATO PRODUCTION FIELDS. TARGETED NEMATODES WILL INCLUDE: MAGNAPORTHE ORYZAE PATHOTYPE TRITICUM (WHEAT BLAST), MELOIDOGYNE ARTIELLIA (BRITISH ROOT-KNOT NEMATODE), AND HETERODERA CICERI (CHICKPEA CYST NEMATODE).
