Description
- Activities
- Nurseries, retail outlets, holding ponds and streams throughout the state will be surveyed for P. Ramorum with emphasis placed on the ten genera: camellia, rhododendron, viburnum, pieris, kalmia, syringa, loropetalum, mahonia, leucothoe and laurus. This survey will help define the limits of the infested area in the united states thus facilitating the movement of regulated articles both interstate and internationally. Deliverables and expected outcomes: with four prior years of trace forwards in tennessee nurseries and retail facilities, IT is imperative that tennessee continues its consistent diligence in monitoring for P. Ramorum. Since 2004 tennessee has had repeated trace forwards from infected nurseries, but as of yet P. Ramorum has only been detected in 6 locations, and that was through national survey work. These early detections have allowed for the rapid destruction of material and prevention of pathogen establishment. Intended beneficiary(IES): tennessee farmers, exporters and the tourism industry will benefit from the results of this survey, as well as the general public. Whether the results are confirmation of negative data (i.e.,P.ramorum not present in TN) or the ability to detect the pest(S) early enough to initiate an early eradication response. Subrecipient activities, if known or specified at the time of award: N/a. Cost categories: personnel: $7524; fringe benefits: $3,010; travel: $1,056; supplies: $6,410
