Cooperative Agreement AP26PPQFO000C363
- The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded Cornell University a $116,631 Cooperative Agreement on August 1, 2026, to support federal quarantine efforts controlling and eradicating potato cyst nematodes in Idaho. The award funds development of potato varieties resistant to the nematode through two complementary activities: testing wild potato plants to identify new, long-lasting resistance traits, and integrating those traits into potato breeding programs...
- The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded the Regents of the University of Idaho a cooperative agreement totaling $352,601 on August 1, 2026, to develop potato varieties resistant to potato cyst nematodes, improve diagnostic tests for different types of the pest, and provide bioassays and cyst samples for regulatory decision-making. The agreement supports the agency's effort to help the U.S. prepare for, manage, and eradicate potato cyst nematodes. Work...
- The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded a $229,811 Cooperative Agreement to the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets on September 1, 2026, to continue deregulation efforts for areas in New York under quarantine for Golden Nematode and to fund research on Golden Nematode resistant potato strains. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets will sample all regulated fields within Southold Township with the goal of...
- The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded a Cooperative Agreement totaling $683,369 to the Regents of the University of Idaho on August 1, 2026, to develop potato varieties resistant to the pale cyst nematode, a pest that severely threatens U.S. potato production and is difficult and costly to eradicate. The award funds research to study litchi tomato's natural immunity and identify genes that can be transferred to or mimicked in potatoes, supporting...
- The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded the Regents of the University of Idaho a cooperative agreement worth $138,605 on August 1, 2026, to evaluate whether the potato pale cyst nematode trap crop, litchi tomato, may provide a pathway for the introduction of quarantine viroids into U.S. commercial potato production systems; to understand viroid pathogenesis, seed transmission, and diagnostics; and to screen potato germplasm for sources of potential...
- Cooperative Agreement Summary The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) awarded $217,793 to New York State Agriculture & Markets on September 1, 2025, under the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care program (CFDA 10.025). The cooperative agreement, which extends through August 31, 2026, supports the final phase of the Golden Nematode Deregulation Project. The award aims to reduce the existing quarantine boundary to the...
- The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded North Dakota State University a $151,572 Cooperative Agreement on May 1, 2026, to conduct survey, diagnostics, and reporting of soybean pests throughout North Dakota under the 2026 program cycle. The work encompasses visual survey, tissue culture, and trapping techniques across 500 production fields in North Dakota. NDSU will collect samples, perform diagnostics, and upload all data to an approved database....
- The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded a Cooperative Agreement totaling $318,814.18 to the Nebraska Department of Agriculture on April 1, 2026, under the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care program (CFDA 10.025). The award runs through March 31, 2027, and funds disease surveillance, animal health emergency response planning and preparedness, and training and outreach activities across Nebraska. The Nebraska Department of Agriculture...
- Federal Project Grant Award Summary The University of Idaho received a $695,380 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Division of Integrative Organismal Systems under the Biological Sciences program (CFDA 47.074) effective August 15, 2025, through July 31, 2028. This research project investigates the molecular mechanisms by which potato plants detect and respond to nematode-associated molecular patterns (NAMPs), specifically ascaroside 18 (ASCR18), to activate immune defenses...
- The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the Department of Agriculture awarded a $223,169 cooperative agreement to the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets on January 1, 2026, to conduct early detection surveys for exotic terrestrial plant pests in New York nurseries and ornamental crop operations. The recipient will conduct approximately 1,262 combined surveys—deploying traps and performing visual inspections—targeting pests including Siberian silk moth,...
