About this award

The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded the State of Washington Department of Agriculture a cooperative agreement valued at $201,677 on July 1, 2026, to support honeybee disease and pest surveillance under the National Honeybee Survey.

WSDA will receive live bee shipments from apiary inspectors in up to 25 U.S. states and territories and conduct diagnostic molecular testing to document which diseases, parasites, and pests of honeybees are present or absent across the United States. Testing follows methods established in past honeybee surveys and will target the 2026 Pest Target List. WSDA will report all test results to the University of Maryland Survey Coordinator, documenting findings that inform a nationwide honeybee health assessment benefiting the Plant Protection and Quarantine program, Washington State, beekeepers, and U.S. citizens.

Performance occurs in Washington through June 30, 2027. The award includes $95,605 for personnel, $30,627 in fringe, $17,002 in supplies, $28,245 in other costs, and $26,218 in indirect costs, with smaller allocations for travel and contractual expenses. No sub-recipients are specified in the award.
