AWARD PURPOSE: THE PURPOSE OF THIS AGREEMENT IS TO CONTINUE PARTICIPATION IN THE PPA 7721 FUNDED NATIONAL HONEYBEE SURVEY, WITH AN E MPHASIS ON EARLY DETECTION OF HONEYBEE PESTS. IN 2026, THIS STATEWIDE SURVEY WILL TARGET 20 HONEYBEE PESTS. ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: TWENTY-FOUR SAMPLES WILL BE COLLECTED FROM 5 APIARIES SAMPLED TWICE AND 14 APIARIES ACROSS 17 COUNTIES IN THE STATE OF IDAHO USING THE METHODS PUBLISHED ON THE APHIS WEBSITE. THESE SAMPLES WITH BE SUBMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MD HONEYBEE LAB FOR ANALYSIS. DELIVERABLES AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES: PRESENCE/ABSENCE DATA FOR EXOTIC PESTS OF HONEYBEES IS CRITICAL IF THESE PESTS ARE TO BE CONTAINED EFFICIENTLY. SURVEY EFFORTS WILL ALSO SUPPORT U.S. HONEYBEE QUEEN PRODUCERS TO REQUESTS FOR THE OPENING OF AND/OR CONTINUED ACCESS TO FOREIGN MARKETS SUCH AS CANADA. ROBUST DATA, SUCH AS PAST AND PROPOSED EFFORTS REFUTE THESE ASSUMPTIONS, AND WILL PROVIDE DATA NEEDED TO REMOVE TRADE BARRIERS. INTENDED BENEFICIARY(IES): THE IDAHO, AND NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY BENEFIT FROM A HEALTHY HONEYBEE POPULATION DUE TO THEIR POLLINATION EFFORTS.
