- Activities
- Traps will be deployed at five orchards, vineyards, and/or nurseries for all target pests. Summer fruit tortrix moth and spotted lanternfly traps will be placed both on farms and in nurseries. Each site will receive one trap per pest, checked BI-weekly from june through september. Visual surveys for spotted lanternfly EGG masses will occur at five nurseries early in the season, and limb and circle traps will monitor for this pest at five nurseries and five orchards or vineyards. Early detection will help safeguard agriculture locally, regionally, and nationally. Deliverables and expected outcomes: data on the presence/absence of orchard pests in new hampshire. Intended beneficiary(IES): state personnel gaining knowledge about orchard pests by conducting a pest detection survey. If exotic orchard pests are detected in this project, this information will aid aphis and the state in taking expedient regulatory action to curtail their spread and reduce economic losses in the USA. Conducting this survey for orchard pests will increase the communication and cooperation with orchardists, nurserymen, vineyard owners, and landowners across the state, as well as with the UNH cooperative extension specialists that serve them.
