About this award
The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded the Ohio Department of Agriculture a $300,000 cooperative agreement on August 1, 2026, to support statewide monitoring, survey, and suppression activities for spotted lanternfly in Ohio.
The award funds ODA's assessment of spotted lanternfly pathways, detection and delimitation of infestations, deployment of traps, and treatment activities. Deliverables include documented survey results, identification of infested and high-risk locations, treatment activities, data entry into NAPIS, updated maps of spotted lanternfly and tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima), public outreach, and reports summarizing outcomes and stakeholder engagement. The work responds to increasing spotted lanternfly detections across Ohio and the pest's high potential for human-assisted spread, which threatens Ohio's grape, fruit tree, nursery, logging, and related industries.
The period of performance runs through July 31, 2027. Work is performed in Ohio. Obligated funding totals $300,000, allocated across personnel ($86,351), fringe benefits ($43,176), travel ($3,624), supplies ($10,500), contractual services ($120,000), other costs ($17,101), and indirect costs ($19,248).
Description
Support ohio's statewide monitoring, survey, and suppression activities for spotted lanternfly (SLF), enabling ODA to assess pathways, detect and delimit infestations, deploy traps, conduct treatments, and provide outreach to stakeholders. The project is justified by the need for expanded inspections, trapping, data collection, and response actions due to the increasing SLF detections across ohio and the pest's high potential for spread through human-assisted movement. Expected deliverables include documented survey results, identification of infested and high‑risk locations, treatment activities, data entry into napis, updated maps of SLF and ailanthus altissima, public outreach, and reports summarizing outcomes and stakeholder engagement. If this work is not completed, SLF populations could expand unchecked, threatening ohio's grape, fruit tree, nursery, logging, and related industries, increasing regulatory burdens, and reducing the state's capacity to rapidly respond to new infestations. Cost analysis: personnel-$86,351.00. Fringe benefits-$43,176.00. Travel-$3,624.00. Supplies-$10,500.00. Contractual-$120,000.00.other-$17 ,101.00. Indirect cost-$19,248.00.
