About this award

The Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service awarded the Oregon Department of Agriculture a $108,000 cooperative agreement on May 15, 2026, to conduct pest surveillance in Oregon nurseries and grape vineyards targeting national and state priority pests.

The recipient will identify and monitor 12 vineyard sites for spotted lanternfly using insect traps and visual surveys, checking traps regularly and submitting specimens for screening and preliminary identification. In parallel, the recipient will survey and sample 21 certified nurseries carrying Prunus and Malus species stock, generating 3,256 visual surveys and laboratory test results for eight national priority pest pathogens and two Oregon state priority pathogens. All suspected pests identified in traps or testing will be submitted to APHIS Plant Protection and Quarantine for final confirmation. Survey data will be uploaded to the National Agricultural Pest Information System before the final accomplishment report due date.

The cooperative agreement funds personnel ($41,066), fringe ($22,267), travel ($5,446), supplies ($25,134), and indirect costs ($14,087). Performance runs through May 14, 2027, at Oregon locations. The work supports nursery stock producers in meeting domestic and international regulatory requirements.
