AWARD PURPOSE: THE PURPOSE OF THIS AGREEMENT IS TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR THE ARKANSAS DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE TO CONDUCT A PINE COMMODITY SURVEY IN ARKANSAS AS PART OF THE COOPERATIVE AGRICULTURAL PEST SURVEY PROGRAM INTENDED TO FIND INTRODUCED EXOTIC PINE PESTS OF REGULATORY SIGNIFICANCE TO BOTH PPQ AND THE ARKANSAS DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE. INTENTION IS TO FIND THESE PESTS IN TIME TO EFFECT ERADICATION BEFORE THEY BECOME ESTABLISHED. ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: PINE COMMODITY SURVEY WILL BE CONDUCTED IN SEVERAL GEOGRAPHICALLY SEPARATE PARTS OF THE STATE OVER THE COURSE OF A FEW YEARS ACCORDING TO THE APPROVED METHODS AS LISTED IN THE PINE COMMODITY SURVEY WORK PLAN. EDUCATION AND OUTREACH EFFORTS WILL ALSO BE CONDUCTED. OUTREACH ACTIVITIES WILL ALSO BE CONDUCTED WITH LANDOWNERS PARTICIPATING IN SURVEYS TO EDUCATE THEM ABOUT OAK PEST RISKS...HOW TO RECOGNIZE SUSPECT PESTS AND TO HOW TO REPORT THEM TO STATE AND FEDERAL REGULATORY AGENCIES. DELIVERABLES AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES: PRESENCE/ABSENCE DATA FOR EXOTIC PESTS OF PINES IN ARKANSAS. THIS DATA WILL HELP FACILITATE SAFE TRADE, POSSIBLY LEAD TO EARLY DETECTION AND ERADICATION OF EXOTIC PESTS AND IMPROVE OVERALL PLANT H EALTH. OUTREACH EFFORTS WILL RESULT IN MORE STATE RESIDENTS WITH KNOWLEDGE OF EXOTIC PESTS WHICH CAN HELP PREVENT ACCIDENTAL SPREAD INTO UNINFESTED AREAS. INTENDED BENEFICIARY(IES): FORESTERS, WOOD PRODUCTS INDUSTRY AND PUBLIC/PRIVATE LAND OWNERS AND MANAGERS IN ARKANSAS WILL ALSO BENEFIT BECAUSE THIS WORK COULD LEAD TO EARLY DETECTION OF EXOTIC PESTS THAT MAY DAMAGE HORTICULTURAL PLANTS AND TIMBER SPECIES IN THE STATE.
