About this award
The Southwest Indian Agricultural Association Inc. received a $100,000 Cooperative Agreement from the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) under the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care program (CFDA 10.025), effective September 1, 2025, through August 31, 2027. The organization will deliver community-based outreach and education services focused on animal disease prevention, biosecurity, and early disease detection for tribal livestock producers and communities in Arizona. Key service components include educational programming on foreign animal disease (FAD) response and prevention, guidance on premises identification numbers and location identifiers for emergency response coordination, and clarification of critical roles and responsibilities among community and governmental agencies in animal disease prevention and response efforts.
This project builds upon a previous NADPRP (National Animal Disease Preparedness and Response Program) initiative and is designed to enhance tribal resilience and emergency preparedness capabilities. The deliverables and outcomes will directly benefit livestock producers and tribal communities by improving emergency response strategies, strengthening local resiliency to animal disease outbreaks, and enhancing overall agricultural preparedness in southwestern tribal regions. APHIS utilizes cooperative agreements under this program to address regional agricultural health threats through collaborative, community-centered approaches aligned with the agency's mission to protect U.S. agriculture from economically injurious animal diseases and pests.
Description
Will enhance tribal resilience by addressing information gaps and conducting community-based outreach and education on animal disease prevention, biosecurity, early disease detection, and defining the critical roles and responsibilities of community and government agencies in preventing and responding to foreign animal diseases (fads). This project builds upon a previous nadprp initiative (fain AP23VSSP0000C090 "southwest tribal farmer/rancher animal disease response outreach and education program"). The project will benefit livestock producers and tribal communities by improving emergency response strategies, enhancing preparedness, and strengthening local resiliency to animal disease outbreaks.
