Description

The center for food security and public health (CFSPH) at iowa state university will create a free, online, mobile-friendly field guide for aquatic animal diseases listed in the world organization for animal health aquatic animal health code and the USDA national list of reportable animal diseases. This guide will directly help U.S. Aquatic animal producers and their aquatic animal health team quickly access information about these less common, but highly critical diseases that can severely impact aquaculture food production and producers' livelihoods. The guide will include information on susceptible species, clinical signs, risk factors, transmission routes, videos, and high-resolution images for 36 high-risk diseases that harm commercial production of finfish, crustaceans, mollusks, and amphibians. The availability of these resources in one centralized location will provide easy access to help aquaculture producers quickly recognize and contain economically important diseases and reduce the economic impacts of aquatic animal disease outbreaks.
