About this award

NY State Agriculture & Markets received a $3.0 million Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) under the Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care program (CFDA 10.025), effective July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. Under this agreement, the state agency conducts survey, control, and regulatory activities targeting the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) infestation within New York to prevent further spread, control the insect population, and ultimately eradicate it from the state.

The deliverables include detection and delimitation surveys across 40 designated zones, inspection of 50 Level 3 biometric grids by state inspectors, and execution of 1,000 regulatory inspections to ensure compliance with ALB movement regulations for high-risk industries. Additionally, the state will remove infested trees and high-risk host trees within one mile of infested areas. These activities directly benefit timber and wood products, maple syrup, commercial fruit, tree nursery and greenhouse, and tourism industries in New York and neighboring states and territories by protecting critical agricultural and natural resources from ALB-related economic losses.
