Description
- Activities
- The survey, quarantine enforcement, training, and any necessary treatment operations will be conducted using USDA, state, cooperative agricultural support services (CASS) and county staff. Baited delta trap deployment will begin february and possibly run through october 1ST. The staff performing the trapping will be trained in proper trap assembly and placement, preliminary egvm identification, and sample submission procedures. Suspect samples are sent to cdfa's plant pest diagnostic center (PPDC). Once the identification process is complete, the PDR system can be used to input relevant collection information into the integrated plant health information system (IPHIS) database. When necessary, treatment activities will be performed by trained pesticide applicators (either cdfa, CASS, or a private contractor). Regulatory activities and public meetings will occur within each designated eradication area as necessary. Deliverables and expected outcomes: evaluation of the thoroughness of the survey and enforcement of the quarantine regulations can be quantified by the number of sites sampled, number of eradication areas (if egvm are detected), and the number of positive samples. The survey methods described in this document target likely introduction or detection points. Targeting the survey on those areas that have the greatest risk for introduction or detection should allow for a reasonable expectation that the egvm is detected early. Therefore, this survey should find evidence of these pests if they have been introduced. Negative survey results would indicate that previous eradicative and regulatory actions have been and continue to be effective. Intended beneficiary(IES): according to the US DA, egvm has two main hosts, grapes, and olives, as well as some other minor hosts. Egvm is an important pest of grapes, in which losses of 80 percent were reported during the 2009 infestation. Continued absence of egvm in california greatly benefits the diverse G rape industries, a $5.54 billion industry, among other commodity industries within the state. Subrecipient activities, if known or specified at the time of award: california's county agricultural commissioners (CACS) receive money to carry out the activities mentioned above (attachment B).
