Description
• award purpose: the primary objective of this project is to designed to target massachusetts high risk areas for a statewide mitigation of SLF (lycorma delicatula), a pest that poses a significant threat to our state's orchard, and grape, as well as our natural resources • activities to be performed: • the cooperator seeks to conduct a program which is expected to result in: • treatments of new populations • additional treatments of established populations • rapid response to reports of new finds of SLF • rapid response when delineating areas of new populations • prompt issuance of the issuance of regulatory documents (notices of abatement) to owners of properties in or abutting known SLF in festations. These actions will ensure that mdar is responding to SLF more quickly and efficiently than IT has been able to, given current resources. A more rapid response will result in slowing the potential spread of SLF to other areas of the state or to bordering states. • deliverables and expected outcomes: • mdar would hire and employ two survey technicians whose sole duties would be to follow up on SLF reports and to survey areas where old and new populations have been found. • mdar would also hire and employ an administrative contractor to write and issue the notices of abatement. This position is needed because of the work to be done to determine parcel ownership and business information for each property where SLF is found. Should a permit system or other type of system be used in massachusetts as part of the notices of abatement, this individual would be charged with running that system. • mdar would additionally use funds to hire contractors to conduct pesticide applications in areas where SLF is found. • intended beneficiary(IES): this work is protecting the agricultural resources of MA and all of new england including but not limited to forest nursery and landscape stakeholders, grape and orchard industry, agrotourism industries in the state, and the general public. Also the citizens of massachusetts and visitors to the state who enjoy outdoor recreation and agrotourism. • subrecipient activities, if known or specified at the time of award: N/a
