About this award

This $112,045 Cooperative Agreement, awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) under the CFDA 10.025 Plant and Animal Disease, Pest Control, and Animal Care program, will fund survey activities to determine the presence or absence of certain plant pests across Hawaii.

The key activities to be performed include conducting specialty crop surveys targeting 11 specific plant pests, such as the summer fruit tortrix moth and European grapevine moth. The survey data collected will be used to trigger rapid response, mitigation, or eradication efforts if the pests are detected, and to help establish "apparently free" pest status for quarantine purposes if the pests are not found. The results will be entered into the National Agricultural Pest Information System (NAPIS). The intended beneficiaries are field crop farmers, citrus and specialty crop growers, nurseries, and the general public in Hawaii.
