THE COOPERATOR WILL DEVELOP AND OPTIMIZE PRACTICAL SYNTHESES OF COMPOUNDS THAT ARE NOT COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE BUT HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS POTENTIAL SEMIOCHEMICALS USED BY INSECT PESTS OR THEIR NATURAL ENEMIES. IN ADDITION, THE COOPERATOR WILL DEVELOP AND OPTIMIZE PRACTICAL SYNTHESES OF THOSE ISOMERS OR STRUCTURAL ANALOGS THAT MAY BE NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND THE BEHAVIOR OF THESE INSECTS. AS A RESULT, THE SYNTHESIZED COMPOUNDS WILL BENEFIT RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF LURES FOR PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE COOPERATIVE AGRICULTURAL PEST SURVEY (CAPS) AND OTHER PEST PROGRAMS.
