Description

Benefits of this work will include continuity of scientific support to phytosanitary efforts that protect plant resources. Quarantine pest data sheets will be compiled to support sanitary and phytosanitary decisions on these pests. These datasheets cover information about the pests and the host plants which are then regulated under not authorized pending pest risk analysis (nappra) to prevent the spread of plant pests that can be used for regulatory and pest management purposes. This agreement aligns with the agency's and secretary's priorities in safeguarding US agriculture and natural resources against the entry, establishment, and spread of economically and environmentally significant pests, and to facilitate safe trade of agricultural products. Development of these data sheets informs aphis of the biology, geographical location, spread, damage potential, host range, controls, and mitigation options on quarantine pests of concern. Having this information will facilitate the development of policies on the entry requirements for hosts of these pests. The recipient will prepare 25 datasheets for quarantine pathogens and their hosts, as well as original scientific literature cited that support the information. Scanned or electronic reproductions of the cited literature must also be provided by the recipient. Having this information will facilitate the development of policies on the entry requirements for hosts of these pests. Based on this information aphis may regulate the host plants under not authorized pending pest risk analysis (nappra). These data sheets would then constitute the platform over which further discussions and decisions will be made regarding listing taxa as nappra. This category will be populated by plants that are quarantine pests or are potential pathways for quarantine pests. Quarterly written progress reports and financial reports are to be provided to aphis PPQ with ongoing or final program evaluation conducted by PPQ through review of r eports. This agreement aligns with the agency's and secretary's priorities in safeguarding US agriculture and natural resources against the entry, establishment, and spread of economically and environmentally significant pests, and to facilitate safe trade of agri cultural products. There will be no subawards.
