The Alutiiq Tribe of Old Harbor received a $195,516 Cooperative Agreement under the USDA's Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) program (CFDA 10.182) to expand local food procurement and distribution efforts. Under this award, the Tribe will purchase unprocessed or minimally processed domestic foods, primarily targeting historically underserved farmers, producers, fishers, and small businesses including processors, aggregators, and distributors. The purchased foods will be distributed to underserved communities in Alaska. In addition to increasing local food consumption, the project aims to build and expand economic opportunities for local and disadvantaged producers. The Tribe may subaward with partner organizations from the public, private, for-profit, or non-profit sectors. Quarterly performance reports will track the value of purchases, number of producers, value of food distributions, and number of distribution locations.
