The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 9 awarded $1.2 million through the Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup Cooperative Agreements program (CFDA 66.818) to the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, effective July 1, 2025 through December 31, 2029. Under this cooperative agreement, the recipient will conduct comprehensive brownfields assessment and remediation activities on real properties in Las Vegas, Nevada that may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. The RTC will inventory, characterize, and assess brownfield sites; conduct cleanup planning and alternatives analysis; engage the community through meetings and outreach; competitively procure qualified environmental professionals to execute site assessments; and report progress through the EPA's Assessment, Cleanup and Redevelopment Exchange System (ACRES).
The award anticipates delivery of specific quantifiable products over the performance period, including 10 Phase I and 8 Phase II environmental site assessments, 6 site-specific cleanup plans with alternatives analysis, 2 community meetings, planning documents to support brownfields revitalization initiatives, and 16 quarterly progress reports. No subawards are included in this assistance agreement. The work conducted will benefit residents, business owners, and stakeholders in and around Clark County, Nevada by identifying contaminated properties and developing strategies for their successful redevelopment and reuse.
