THIS PROJECT PROVIDES FUNDING FOR THE SWEETGRASS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION TO INVENTORY, CHARACTERIZE, ASSESS, AND CONDUCT CLEANUP PLANNING AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT RELATED ACTIVITIES FOR BROWNFIELDS SITES IN THE FIVE MONTANA COUNTIES OF GLACIER, TOOLE, TETON, PONDERA, AND CASCADE AND ON THE BLACKFEET RESERVATION, SO THAT PROPERTIES WITHIN THE TARGET AREA CAN BE RETURNED TO PRODUCTIVE AND BENEFICIAL USE. GRANT FUNDS WILL BE USED TO CONDUCT APPROXIMATELY 6 PHASE I AND 9 PHASE II ENVIRONMENTAL SITE ASSESSMENTS AND DEVELOP 1 CLEANUP ALTERNATIVES PLAN. THE FUNDS WILL ALSO BE USED TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY OUTREACH ACTIVITIES. A PRIMARY FOCUS OF THE GRANT PROGRAM WILL BE TO FACILITATE TRANSFORMATION OF BLIGHTED AND UNDERUTILIZED BROWNFIELDS INTO COMMUNITY AMENITIES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DRIVERS.
