THIS AGREEMENT WILL PROVIDE FUNDING TO MONTGOMERY COUNTY TO INVENTORY, CHARACTERIZE, ASSESS, AND CONDUCT CLEANUP PLANNING AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT RELATED ACTIVITIES FOR BROWNFIELD SITES IN THE TOWNS ALONG THE MOHAWK RIVER. ON THE EASTERN END OF THE RIVER IS AMSTERDAM , THE COUNTY'S ONLY CITY. ON THE WESTERN END , IS ST. JOHNSVILLE, A SMALL VILLAGE CONTAINING SEVERAL BROWNFIELDS ALONG THE MOHAWK RIVER AND ZIMMERMAN CREEK . THE PRESENCE OF THE MOHAWK RIVER MEANS THE ENTIRE TARGET AREA IS ADJACENT TO A BODY OF WATER. ADDITIONALLY, THE TARGET AREA CONTAINS THREE OPPORTUNITY ZONES., WHICH REPRESENT REDEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL.
