About this award
This federal Cooperative Agreement award, with a total funding of $100,067, was granted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) under the Measurement and Engineering Research and Standards (CFDA 11.609) program. The purpose of this award is to develop open-source examples of applications for utilizing the IEEE 1872.1-2024 Robot Task Representation Standard, as well as to lead the working group (IEEE P1872.1.1 Robot Tasking) to formalize those examples and others into a future standard user guide. The research will enable end users to more easily utilize the 1872.1-2024 standard to develop more agile robotic systems. The award recipient, Georgia TECH Applied Research Corp (GTARC), will perform these activities from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025, without the use of sub-awardees.
Description
- Purpose
- The purpose of this grant is to develop open-source examples of applications for utilizing the ieee 1872.1-2024 robot task representation standard as well as leading the working group (ieee P1872.1.1 robot tasking to formalize those examples and others being developed by the WG members into a future standard user guide through ieee RAS. The research will enable end users to more easily utilize the 1872.1-2024 standard to develop more agile robotic systems.
- Activities
- The proposal will perform the following activities:1) support / participate in the ieee RAS working group ? They will lead the P1872.1.1 working group as IT works to develop a set of examles to make up the future standard user guide, including BI-weekly virtual meetings as well as semi-annual in person meetings held at ieee robotics conferences.2) develop a set of open-source examples of applications of the ieee 1872.1-2024 robot task representation standard ? They will develop a set of example robotic assembly applications and demonstrate how to use the 1872.1-2024 standard to implement the programming, showing how the standard is able to make the system work better for the end user and allow for more robotic system agility or flexibility in programming.
- Expected outcomes
- The open-source examples developed will feed into the working group along with work from other working group members to be used in the development of the future standard user guide for using the ieee 1872.1-2024 robot task representation standard. The success of these efforst leading to this future standard will improve the robotic system agility of robots in manufacturing as well as other robotics fields where robots and humans work in collaboration to complete tasks.
- Intended beneficiaries
- Robot end users, robot vendors, robot systems integrators, manufacturers, U.S. Industrysubrecipient activities: the recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
