Description
AAR employs over 3,500 aviation maintenance technicians in its four MRO facilities each regulated by CFR part 145 making AAR eligible for this grant. Our project fits into three categories: apprenticeship, outreach to careers in aviation maintenance and support of transitioning military personnel. In 2018, AAR launched the eagle career pathway program that is used by our partner colleges and universities to market and grow the aviation maintenance technician pipeline. Eagle partners schools are just one component of aars workforce strategy that is also focused on short credentialing programs, transitioning military personnel and changing the demographics of our industry with a focused on the underrepresented in aviation specifically women and people of color. AAR will focus all $500,000 in expanding our apprenticeship program that currently is approved by the US department of labor and US department of veteran affairs beyond our four MRO facilities to include our landing gear and component repair facilities located in miami, florida and garden city, new york respectively. In addition to expanding locations AAR will grow the number of apprentices by 100 through a combination of cohort hiring of female technicians, expanding the number of transitioning military personnel choosing aviation technical careers through our skillbridge program and expanding the number of high school students enrolled in our apprenticeship program. AAR is absorbing all administrative costs of this grant to ensure that all the funding is directed to growing the technician workforce and we believe that this proposal will do just that.
