This $170,995 Cooperative Agreement award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (CFDA 47.084) program will fund a project by the Institute For Future Intelligence Inc. to develop a multi-tiered program providing STEM students at Kapi'olani Community College in Hawaii with experiential learning opportunities and immersive internships focused on emerging technologies.
The project aims to inspire, inform, and immerse up to 300 STEM students in hands-on experiences related to data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning through presentations, site visits, and 8-12 week summer internships with 12-15 industry, government, academic, and non-profit partners. The goal is to motivate students to pursue STEM careers and prepare them to enter the workforce, while also connecting these emerging technologies to traditional Hawaiian culture and learning through the "Ma ka hana ka 'ike" or "learn by doing" approach. The project will run from July 2024 through June 2027.
